Mercy by Jacob Nez

Flipping through some of our prayers and creeds from the old Spirit Journey Youth I came across some old prayers and stuff. I feel connected as I remember some of those things that encouraged me in my past.

As Natives we believe that the Spirit of God is not only breathed in the two legged ones but in all creation—the four legged, the winged, those that crawl or swim, the waters, and things of the earth. Not everything is conscious of itself but the Spirit of the Creator has been put in all things so we are grateful for the holiness we see around us.

The bugs are coming out with the warm weather. They also are our kin and share with us this universe.

As it gets dark and confused outside, may we not live with darkness within us. May we stand in silence and give homage to all those that share this world with us.

Keep us on the edge of gratitude.
