Honesty by Jacob Nez
I have long thoughts on honesty. I remember the first time I decided to be honest. Someone asked me what I really wanted to do when I graduated from High School. I had a lot of jokes but for some reason I decided to be honest about it. I said “I want my own apartment and a job where I can become a manager and people don’t laugh at me about a low paying job.”
I felt wrung out like I was wide open to attack.
My friend looked at me strangely. I think he wanted to ridicule me but he didn’t. He just hit me on the back and left. I felt invincible.
I think that being really honest means that people can’t ridicule us because we don’t have anything to lose. We are already sticking our necks out on what is important.
